Denture Options

Modern prosthetic dentistry uses various grades of natural-looking, comfortable materials for full dentures. The level of esthetics you desire will affect cost.

You’ll also need to decide how to secure your prosthetics. Traditional dentures can be held in place on the top arch with natural suction or adhesive. The bottom arch requires adhesive–unless you opt for implant-retained dentures.

What are implant dentures?

Also called implant dentures or overdentures, implant-supported dentures snap onto posts secured directly to the jawbone. Implant posts replace teeth roots and are anchored in the densest part of the jaw, the front, for optimal stability and longevity.

How are implants placed?

Dental implant posts are secured into the jawbone during an outpatient surgical procedure in the office of an oral surgeon, prosthodontist, or periodontist.
How long does an implant procedure take from start to finish?
Once the posts are placed, the process of bone integration begins. After gums grow over the posts, a brief procedure is required to uncover the posts and add abutments, onto which the final denture will snap.

Bone growing around the implant posts is called osseointegration, and it can take six to nine months. Between surgery and completion of osseointegration, the patient can wear a temporary or modified denture that allows the implant site to heal. The total time for implants is about a year, in most cases.
